March 13 @ 6:00 pm – 10:30 pm
After nearly 70 years of hosting its signature Derby Day, the West Suburban Auxiliary of Brightpoint is launching a new spring tradition.
On Friday, March 13, Brightpoint will debut the Bright Light Gala, an elegant evening of cocktails, live music and a raffle that brings the community together to celebrate resilience and the transformative power of giving.
The West Suburban Auxiliary’s decision marks a meaningful shift, as the group retires its long-running Derby Day celebration. The Bright Light Gala reflects the auxiliary’s desire to evolve alongside its members and the broader community in a gathering that feels more modern and welcoming.
By embracing a theme rooted in light and renewal, this new experience is both forward-looking and deeply woven into Brightpoint’s work, said Beth Lyons, president of the West Suburban Auxiliary.
The Bright Light Gala is the next chapter in the West Suburban Auxiliary’s long history,” Lyons said. “Our auxiliary has evolved with our members and the community. This gala will put the focus on what a light Brightpoint has become for families in need.”
Founded in 1883, Brightpoint, formerly known as Children’s Home & Aid, serves more than 37,000 children and families through early learning, mental health and wellness, family support and child welfare services. The auxiliary (formerly known as the Hinsdale Auxiliary) has provided critical support to the mission for more than 70 years.
Derby Day’s legacy remains a cherished part of the auxiliary’s history, Lyons said, but it became clear that it was time to reimagine an event that better fits the desires of today’s community.
Through careful thought and consideration, the auxiliary explored what a refreshed spring event could look like, reflecting on how families and supporters choose to engage today.
“Derby Day has been a meaningful tradition for generations, and we’re incredibly proud of its history,” said Tish Newcomer, auxiliary member. “At the same time, we recognized that people’s schedules and interests have changed, and early May has become increasingly busy. We wanted to create an experience that more people could truly enjoy and participate in.”
Leaders wanted to ensure that the transition would continue to honor the auxiliary’s mission while giving supporters a night to remember.
With that vision in mind, community members can look forward to an evening that blends celebration with purpose – bringing the heart of Brightpoint’s work into focus.
“When we are able, the ability to help others is a blessing and a privilege,”said Claudine Schramko, event co-chair. “I am proud to be part of an organization committed to bettering the lives of those in need.”
Newcomer added that the group hopes the new gala will inspire more people to engage with Brightpoint’s mission.
“There’s truly a place for everyone,” she said. “Whether someone attends, volunteers, or helps spread the word, every act of support makes a difference for the families we serve.”
Together, these efforts strengthen the community foundation that will help the Bright Light Gala thrive for years to come.
With the excitement around this new theme and date, we anticipate selling out of tickets – do not wait to register!
