Fathers are Essential to Children’s Well-Being

Fatherhood Services programs Illinois families can access through Brightpoint help empower fathers and strengthen families with support, education and resources to build healthy, lasting relationships. We recognize the important role fathers play in the emotional, social, and economic well-being of their children and communities, and we work to ensure fathers have the tools and opportunities to succeed in every aspect of family life.

Through direct services, community coalition building, peer-to-peer support and advocacy, fatherhood programs Illinois families trust through Brightpoint help fathers build parenting skills, strengthen family connections, improve communication and navigate challenges that may affect family stability. We are dedicated to creating inclusive and supportive spaces where fathers can grow personally and professionally while becoming active, engaged caregivers and role models. By investing in fathers, we help create stronger families, healthier communities, and brighter futures for children.

Brightpoint Fatherhood Services program uses a cohort and individual support model where navigators and facilitators help to strengthen fathers’ relationships with their children, families and communities. The program was launched on May 1, 2021, and provides increased opportunities for fathers throughout the state to connect, learn and grow alongside each other. Brightpoint Fatherhood Services serves low-income fathers in Metro Chicago & Rockford and is now informing how we engage with fathers in the Southern Illinois region.

Brightpoint Fatherhood Services uses a cohort and individual support model where Navigators facilitate group cohort sessions and provide one-on-one support to fathers, develop their identities as men, parents, and co-parents, while addressing their specific life needs and goals.

Positive Outcomes

Research shows that non-residential fathers can play a role in ameliorating the circumstances that lead to child neglect and abuse. Their involvement in their children’s lives is associated with positive outcomes such as children leaving foster care sooner, and children being significantly less likely to re-enter foster care compared to children whose fathers are not involved.
