Building the Foundation for a Lifetime of Learning

El Hogar del Niño (Home of the Child) was founded in 1972 and is an award-winning, NAEYC accredited bilingual early childhood education organization serving nearly 300 students from Chicago’s Pilsen, Little Village, and South Lawndale communities. El Hogar Del Niño staff also serve 74 children and families in their Home Visiting Program. The Center has 22 classrooms across a 20,000 square foot facility located in the heart of Pilsen, with deep community roots that attracts families from several neighboring communities. Students who are 15-36 months old also enjoy access to a special Gross Motor Room, a dedicated space with toys and activities to support their physical development and coordination. The hidden gem of El Hogar del Niño is a rooftop playground where students can run, jump, and slide with the Chicago skyline in the background.

What sets El Hogar del Niño apart is their focus on supporting children with adverse childhood experiences. Staff are trained in supporting children experiencing trauma, loss, or who are unhoused.

What We Provide

We provide bilingual community-based programming for families with infants, toddlers, preschoolers and that is designed to enhance the development of young children and promote healthy family functioning. Services cover early education and childhood development, medical, dental, mental health and nutrition resources, as well as parent education. There are also two part time bilingual Licensed Clinical Social Workers on staff who support teachers as well as students and parents.

Through a balance of active and quiet play, teacher-led and child-initiated activities, and small and large group activities, your child will learn how to problem-solve, manage their emotions, build communication skills, and develop their critical thinking abilities in preparation for the transition to preschool.
